Prelude - Rise up or Bow down.
Prelude – Rise Up or Bow Down

1 Eleint, The Year of the Warrior Princess (1489 DR) DR (Dale Reckoning)

For years, the evil Cult of the Dragon has devoted itself to creating undead dragons in a vain attempt to fulfill an ancient prophecy. However, the cultists were misguided. They misunderstood. But now, under new leadership, the cult believes that the prophecy does not speak of undead dragons, but of a dragon empire that’s been extinct for 25,000 years. Tiamat, Queen of Evil Dragons, has languished in the Nine Hells for millennia. The cult believes that the time of her return is at hand.

The cult has a new face and a new mission. It seeks to free Tiamat from the Nine Hells and bring her into the Forgotten Realms. To accomplish its goal, the cult needs five ancient dragon masks and the support of evil dragons everywhere. The cult leaders—each one a “dragon whisperer”—have reached out to the evil dragons of the Sword Coast and earned their allegiance.

Meanwhile, evil dragons in partnership with the cult seek to amass a treasure hoard worthy of their dark queen, not by plundering their own hoards (of course) but by stealing money from cities, caravans, good-aligned dragons, merchant ships, and other sources. Their ravenous hunt for treasure throws the Sword Coast into upheaval. Neverwinter, Waterdeep, Baldur’s Gate—no city is safe from their depredations.

The situation is dire. However, the Sword Coast is far from defenseless. Powerful factions are ready to rise up and put an end to the tyranny of dragons. Adventurers throughout the Realms must join forces to face Tiamat, destroy the Cult of the Dragon, and prevent the rise of a new dragon empire. In their hands, the future lies.

Buh - Character Fiction
1st Eleasias (August) , The Year of the Warrior Princess (1489 DR) DR (Dale Reckoning)

Orsik darted from tree to tree. He was unused to being the hunter, his ability to plan the combat being hampered by the constant threat of capture. It had been 3 days of exhausting cat and mouse with a dozen orcs bearing the symbol of a giant spider. What they wanted, he could not know for he did not carry anything of that high value.

Feeling that, for the moment, he slipped the orc party he found a small clearing. He set what valuables he could in the center and made a fire pit in an attempt to lure the enemy to stop and plunder. He set snatch traps as best he could through the underbrush on the opposite side to even the odds and found a good vantage point and stamped a path towards the traps to lure some of them off. “1 on 10,” thought Orsik, “poor odds.”

Buh had been off the roads for some time coming down through Neverwinter woods along the Silverymoon Trail. He could not believe how great it was not to expunge magical energies randomly. It was maddening to experience such a violent convulsion of supernatural energy. He spied a break in the thicket with what looked to be a traveler’s camp site, but no one was around.

“He may have some food!” thought Buh. He crept into the clearing. Orsik cursed underneath his breath, some stray dog was fouling up his plans. But he noticed no mark, and this creature was only a half orc not full. Before Orsik could say anything, Buh was jumped by the band. “Of course!” though Orsik, “actually on time for once, orc filth.” They brought Buh to the ground and searched him closely. One called for silence and hefted a strange metallic bobble.

There was raucous excitement within the attackers at finding the orcboon bobble, for it contained a portion of the natural energies within Buh that allowed it to dull the magical field around him. He heard distinctly “The Master will want this, and him,” while noticing the shaman point toward his person. The next few moments were a flurry of excitement.

Some of the orc party had slowly cleared the area and were heading out into the tree line. The snatch traps, for the most part, worked beautifully. Suddenly Orsik burst from nowhere and began slaughtering orcs. Buh, angered at his trinket being stolen, blasted into the creatures with his own magical potential, but most made their escape.

Buh turned to thank the dwarf. “Buh…Buh…Buh,” he stated, anxiety building as he realized his curse returned, “Buh like your fluffy chin hair, hehehe.” What a way to make friends. The dwarf seemed irritated, and Buh became nervous then POOF, polymorphed into a wombat. He spent the next minute staring at the dwarf, who sat down and puzzled over what the hell was going on. BING, Buh returned to normal.

“Buh sorry, get nervous and magic happens. My name Buh. Hard make words and sense.”

He extended his hand, hoping the dwarf would take it. He found later his name was Orsik. Orsik was the first non-orc to show Buh kindness, and he pledged to lend his cause to Orsik’s. Orsik took stock of the situation, they had managed to kill 4 of the 10 orcs, and they reasoned together that whatever they had stolen would send them directly away. Though Buh was mortified and shaken, he agreed with Orsik that they needed to find others. Whatever was going on, it was bigger than they.

An adventure begins..... (Session 1 Recap)
The road from Neverwinter to Phandalin
1 Eleint, The Year of the Warrior Princess (1489 DR) DR (Dale Reckoning)

  • The party is ambushed by four goblins after two days ride. The dead horses of Gundren and Sildar are found at the site of the ambush. Mival sleeps through the ambush in the back of the wagon with a splitting head ache from the day before.
  • The party captures Glick the goblin who provides quite a bit of information including the following:

-Fewer than 20 goblins are in the lair.
-The leader is a Bugbear named Klarg. He answers to King Grol, Chief of the Cragmaw Tribe.
-The location of Cragmaw Castle (Twenty miles north east of the hideout in the neverwinter wood.
-King Grol had sent a messenger to Klarg a few days ago telling him to watch out of Gundren and any companions and to take them prisoner. He was captured and sent on to the castle with a map he was carrying. The human was taken to the eating cave at the hideout.
-The Black Spider had paid Grol to do this.

*The party, led by Glick, finds the Cragmaw hideout five miles away from the site of the ambush.

*The party defeats the the Goblins of Cragmaw hideout and Klarg, and rescues Sildar.

  • The party forges on to Phandalin with Sildar, the wagon load of mining supplies bound for Barthen’s Provisions, and with knowledge of the Lionshield Costers equipment.
  • Sildar tells the party about the Wave Echo Cave on the way to Phandalin:

This rich mine is the site of the Phandelver’s Pact, made between dwarves, gnomes, and a select group of human spellcasters as an agreement to share in the caverns vast mineral and magical wealth. The Forge of Spells was created there, a site for magical items to be crafted. Prosperity flowed through the region due to this, and the nearby human town of Phandalin prospered as well. But then disaster struck when orcs swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path.

A powerful force of orcs reinforced by evil mercenary wizards attacked Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches and magical treasures. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the Forge of Spells, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern. Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost.

For centuries, rumors of buried riches attracted treasure seekers and opportunists to the area around the ruins of Phandalin, but no one succeeded in finding the mine. In recent years, the town of Phandalin was resettled, becoming a rough-and-tumble frontier town. Even more recently, a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker rediscovered the site, but before he could share it with anyone he was ambushed by goblins of the Cragmaw tribe on the orders of someone known as the Black Spider.

The group agree to this task for Sister Garaele.

Introduction-Chorkan Akash
Dragonborn Paladin of Bahamut

Chorkan Akash

Strife and evil are an ever present part of life, and to this point Bahamut has tried seemingly in vain to halt the onslaught upon that which is good. He looks upon the courts

of man and sees the injustice that is allowed to go unfettered as a result of their own greed.

With Tiamat gaining power on the Sword Coast thanks to an alliance of fanatical cultists and evil dragons he realizes that she may soon wrest from her chains deep within the nine hells

and return to take revenge.

Understanding that the threat of dragon dominance lays over the land of free peoples of the Sword Coast, he has chosen one born of his own image to defend them. His harbinger must prove himself to those throughout the Sword Coast and rally the people behind his banner. He must smite evil where it has festered and bring about a new and harsh justice for all whom are too weak to act in their own defense. He watches his chosen champion in his early stages, guiding him during meditations and prayer. One false step for his pupil could prove devastating, and the chosen one knows this in his heart.

Chorkan Akash has a heavy burden placed on him. His shoulders sag under the immense and imperceptible weight of a God’s favor. His young brow wrinkled by the concern of bearing Bahamut’s scrutiny. He knows his task, and seeks the “anyxia formulathen” with which he will banish Tiamat forever. Since he left clan Draksheesh, Akash has followed Bahamut’s wills north to Phaladin. His nights filled with restless sleep plagued by visions of a dark buttress jutting from a larger fortification deep in the mountains. Evil tendrils flow from the walls and poison the countryside around it. He sees in the dream himself with 5 other figures. Their faces seared into his mind more so each passing day.

Eventually he found himself in Phaladin. It was disconcerting that when he arrived at the town at the behest of Bahamut, the god’s communion stopped. He had wandered through the countryside somewhat aimlessly until dusk of his third day. A large wagon pulled up to the front of the town and within it he saw the people from his dream. There was a boisterous and seemingly pompous bard, an off putting gruff human warlock, a battle hardened crazy-eyed gnome, and a half elf druid. He did not ask about nor see the human ranger with them at this time.

The bard hailed him, seeing it odd that a dragon born would be in these parts. Akash, not accustomed to being addressed directly, could only manage to cock an eyebrow as the bard wearied of the silence and pushed on into the town. Akash followed at a distance. He overheard them speak of payment; the warlock in particular voiced his need for coin for his services. They dawdled about for a short while until they came upon a woman who told them of the Red Brand. In his time amongst the people of Phaladin Akash had noted that they were weary of outsiders, but as he heard of the degradations wrought by this gang of hooligans Akash decided to act. He burst in behind the group and received the location of their favorite watering hole.

He had hoped the group would follow him to the Thirsty Lion, but before stepping onto the porch he turned to look. He found that the others had not followed. He sighed, knowing Bahamut needed him to be strong. He stepped onto the porch and outright slew one of the look outs, and egged them to follow him into the town square.

5 surrounded him in front of the main inn. People had begun to panic seeing that the Red Brand were about to commit yet another atrocity. However, the group assembled behind Akash and with their aid the thugs were quickly dispatched. The townsfolk were grateful, many offered gifts of which Akash refusedl. His work was not yet done, and he knew just as the townspeople whispered, that the Red Brand would take this act of war out on the weak populace. He wanted to find their lair, he wanted them all to bleed cut open on the ground. But the group wandered about for a fair portion of the following day. They finally came upon a young boy who would bring the adventurers right to the mouth of the Red Brand cave. For the first time since being in Phaladin, he could sense Bahamut with him once again.

The tunnel sat underneath a manor house, and was desecrated within. Akash cursed his weakness, not being able to identify the nature of taint within the walls of that place. The group managed to kill a fallen wizard, whose form had become so warped by the magic it had unleashed it became a one eyed telepath. In the fight, Haryndor played a critical role as the creature got the jump on the unwary travelers. He blasted Phinneas with a disgusting blast of necrotic energy which began to melt his flesh. As Phinneas retaliated, Meival played a lullaby with the intent of putting the creature to sleep for easier killings. However, it was Phinneas that passed out instead and Haryndor saved the downed warlock from death by paralyzing the creature with his venom in spider form.

Searching around they found a storage room with some nice beaver pelts and some ale in a barrel. As they continued to explore, they happened upon a group on 4 Red Brand and the battle ensued. The Gnome, Erza, made a grand if not wise display that day and would be a story upon which he could make a name for himself. He lept onto the table the Red Branders were playing cards and outright slew one. In his battle rage, he seemed to absorb their retaliations without incurring injury like one would expect. The swords seemed to meld with his skin, more like an oar churning butter. He ended up killing two of the oafs before returning to nibbling on his mushrooms. The bard proved to be quite useful and courageous as well, though placing himself in harm’s way more often than he should.

Akash was sure he had found their lair at last. For all his misgivings, and in seeing all the flaws of this group’s character, Akash knew he was not beyond having a few himself. He knew that the need to eradicate justice came at a cost, and interrogations would be few and far between. This seemed not to sit well with Phinneas in particular. What impressed Akash was the blind faith with which these individuals fought alongside him when they had no call or compulsion to do so but their own conscience. They might think it for money or some other reward, but Akash knows their purpose is a higher one. Each of them had shown their heroism in some way, and each would fight their own corruption brought about by their weaknesses. Yet he will learn from them as best he can and guide those among the group who are willing. The die is cast, and Akash’s plan hinges on the outcome of this foray.

Mival Siannodel – Tales and Musings of the Sterling Tune

4th Eleint through 10th Eleint, The Year of the Warrior Princess (1489 DR) DR (Dale Reckoning)

The light of the sun peered through the curtains as morning broke. In a sudden burst of energy Mival awoke, a slow mellow tune echoing in his head. He grabbed his pack and his flute and made his way towards the door. Stepping over the sprawled out Daran, who appeared ever so uncomfortable sleeping indoors, he slowly opened the door.

Mival Stepped through the door, just was he made his way into the hall the hulking Chorkan came lumbering past as he left the neighboring room. Mival snarled mockingly at the chainmail clad lizard.

“Damn lizard and his effete deity” Mival though as he adjusted his pack and made his way down the stairs.

As Mival stepped out of the Stonehill Inn he saw Chorkan turn marching to the west towards the Town Green. Mival turned to the East and glanced up towards the Tresendar Manor.

Mival set his skipped past the Sleeping Giant as a small boy began to follow him. The two playfully skipped out of town until they came to a small ruble wall at the edge of town. Knowing that he could not let the boy follow him out of town he turned to the boy.

“Run a long home and buy your mum something sweet.” Mival said, his right eye shimmered a bit, as he flipped the boy a silver coin. The boy turned quickly and skipped off into the distance back into town.

Mival made his way through the woods on his way to the hidden cave. Just as he reached the underbrush covering the cave he heard a sharp snap in the distance. Startled Mival turned to look around the woods. Off in the distance he spotted a dirty Erza, treading through the forest behind a small hog.

“Ha, little gnome must be looking for some of those renown mushrooms of the Kryptgarden forest that he so often squeaked about” he thought as he pushed aside the underbrush.

As Mival made his way into the cave he pulled out his lantern and whispered a few words. Suddenly a right white light burst forth from the lantern. He worked his way through the solemn corridors he reached the old room of the late Glass Staff.

Setting his pack in the corner, Mival lit a few candles and made his way into the hidden library adjacent to the room.

He reached down to pick up the few books he had tossed to the ground during his last visit to this place. Mival grabbed the head of the chair and pulled up a seat at the table. As he cracked open the first book the musty smell of parchment filled the room. Stories of old and arcane mysteries were held in these tomes and Mival was set on learning them.

  • * *

Four days had passed since Mival made his way into the dusty Library. He could hear the Townsfolk working above clearing the old manor debris away for that God Forsaken Temple the Lizard was calling for.

Mival, knowing the party would be making their way to the Old Owl Well to investigate the Undead in the area. Picked up the last candle, stared solemnly at the pile of books he had read over the last few days. He picked up his pack and spoke some soft words lighting his lantern. As the lantern lit he tossed the candle on the nondescript books as he tucked one under his arm and made his way out of the room. Adventure lay ahead and he would not miss that for the world, or even knowledge for that matter.

In search of adventure......(Session 4 Recap)
Old Owl Well, Banshee in the woods, and green death in Thunderetree.......
10th Eleint , The Year of the Warrior Princess (1489 DR) DR (Dale Reckoning)

  • The party was ambushed by raiding party from the Orcs of the Many Arrow tribe while camping at night two days out of Phandalin. Half a dozen Orcs and an Ogre lead by a fierce Orc warrior. The party rescued a bruised and battered street urchin from Waterdeep, Algares.
  • The group located the tower (Old Owl Well) and encountered Hamun Kost (Deceased), a necromancer from Thay exploring the ruins in an apparent search for arcane items. • Akash stays behind to bless the area of the ruined tower to remove the necromancers taint.
  • The group (without Akash and Varis Reardon) starts to explore the northwest ruins of Thundertree. After encountering some ash-zombies in an old tavern the party decides to explore the largest structure in town. A tower with a collapsed roof and attached cottage.

The Death of Mival Siannodel (The Sterling Tune)
13th Eleint , The Year of the Warrior Princess (1489 DR) DR (Dale Reckoning)

While exploring the ruins of Thundertree, the party decided to explore a tower on a hill with an attached cottage. There were signs something was wrong, two giant spiders mauled to death in front of the tower and a collapsed roof. The party entered the cottage and found nothing of note. Continuing into the tower through a door in the cottage they entered the base of the tower. A somewhat bare bottom level with a partially collapsed ceiling and a spiral stairway leading along the tower wall. Dust on the floor and sunlight beams from above through the broken roof. Beams and rubble.

An ominous voice booms, “Who dares disturb my lair?” Apparently Ezra did. It is hard to tell if it was pure fearlessness or the mushroom addled mind of the gnome, but Erza brandished his battle axe and charged up the stairs to the second level where he came face to face with the Green Dragon Venomfang. Erza had the presence of mind to scream, “Dragon!”. Erza took a mighty swing, but the suarian beast was too fast. Venomfang knowing some of the group was at the base of the tower had only fought one other group of adventurers and knew they could hurt him.

Venomfang breathed in a large breath and breathed out a huge cone of poisons gas on the head of the gnome and down the stair way filling up the room below with the burning acrid gas. Most ran including the gnome. Mival was turning to leave and the gas filled the room in a blast. He thought about how reckless the gnome had been and how he would deal with him after this was all over.

Mival missed the critical second when he could get a breath of fresh air before the gas came. As he breathed in he knew he was in trouble, the searing gas filled his lungs and he felt as if he were on fire with a thousand bees stinging him in the heart. The poison took hold and his body seized snapping his spine. Mival fell onto the cold stone floor his eyes still open and the gas melting them in their sockets.

Harndur who had taken a precious gasp of air in time grabbed Mival corpse and slung it over his shoulder as he ran out of the tower with his eyes tightly shut.

And so the end has come for one of great potential…..Mival Siannodel (The Sterling Tune)

The Death of Chorkan Akash (The Saint of Phandalin)
Chorkan Akash Dragonborn Paladin (Deceased)
13th Eleint , The Year of the Warrior Princess (1489 DR) DR (Dale Reckoning)

There was a distant screaming that startled Varis as well as Akash, who was tending his wounds. They shared a quick glance before packing up their belongings and racing towards the sound. They arrived to see Mival being carried by Harandur, his body clearly void of life, and the other 3 careening towards the horses.

Out of the abandoned structure came the sight of a young green dragon. He glided down into the courtyard with a thud and hissed his challenge. Akash sighed. He knew the others did not respect his cause; that they did not respect him. He clasped Varis, standing beside him, on the shoulder and bid him run with the others.

“Run, Varis, this challenge is more than any of us. He will follow us and it will become our demise. Have the druid cover your tracks. I will deal with this agent of Tiamat and give you time.”

With that he turned and charged at the dragon. A viscous cone of poison gas spewed forth and poured over glimmering gold light as Akash brought Talon down into the dragon’s left eye. As the dragon reeled Akash lost the sword handle and fell to the ground. The dragon placed a large taloned claw onto his chest and hissed. Blood streamed over the dragon’s snout. Venomfang could not see through his left eye and knew it to be destroyed. Anger welled up in the dragon.

“Follower of Bahamut, you have failed your god. You have failed in your cause. Tiamat is rising, she calls for your soul my little paladin. And Venomfang will show you the way."

Akash with a slight smile on his swollen lips, whispered “Your missing an eye.”

With that Akash was hoisted into Venomfang’s maw and ripped in twain by the vicious jaws.
